Clear definitions of the key terms in occupational health and safety and contractor coordination.
Contractor Coordination (Coordination of Business Activities)CAE
- The set of measures that companies must adopt when workers from two or more companies operate at the same workplace, in order to prevent the occupational risks arising from that concurrence. It is an obligation set out in article 24 of Spanish Law 31/1995 on Occupational Risk Prevention and developed by Royal Decree 171/2004.
Occupational Risk PreventionOHS
- The set of activities and measures adopted or planned at all stages of a company's activity in order to avoid or reduce work-related risks. Its legal framework in Spain is Law 31/1995, of 8 November, on Occupational Risk Prevention.
Workplace owner company
- The company that has the capacity to provide and manage the workplace. It must inform the other concurrent companies about the workplace risks and emergency measures, according to RD 171/2004.
Principal company
- A company that contracts or subcontracts with others the performance of works or services related to its own activity and carried out at its own workplace. It has a reinforced duty to monitor compliance with OHS regulations by contractors and subcontractors.
Concurrent company
- Any company whose workers carry out their activity at a workplace where workers from other companies also operate. Concurrent companies must cooperate and exchange information about the risks of their activities.
Preventive resource
- One or more people designated by the company, with the appropriate training and means, whose presence at the workplace is necessary to monitor compliance with preventive activities in situations of special risk (art. 32 bis of Law 31/1995).
Risk assessment
- A process aimed at estimating the magnitude of risks that could not be avoided, obtaining the information needed for the company to adopt appropriate preventive measures. It is the basis for planning preventive activity.
Occupational risk prevention plan
- The tool through which the company's preventive activity is integrated into its general management system and its occupational risk prevention policy is established.
Health and safety plan
- A document prepared by the contractor on construction sites that analyzes, studies, develops and complements the provisions of the health and safety study, in accordance with Royal Decree 1627/1997.
Health surveillance (medical fitness)
- Medical examinations that the company must guarantee to workers based on the risks of their job, to determine their fitness (art. 22 of Law 31/1995). The medical fitness certificate confirms that the worker is fit for the position.
OHS documentation
- The set of documents that prove compliance with preventive obligations: OHS training and information, delivery of personal protective equipment (PPE), medical fitness, risk assessment, Social Security registration and TC2, among others.
TC2 (Nominal List of Workers)RNT
- A Social Security document, now called the Nominal List of Workers (RNT), which lists the registered workers of a company. In contractor coordination it is used to prove that the workers accessing a workplace are duly registered.
Health and safety coordinator
- A competent technician appointed by the developer to coordinate the application of the general principles of prevention and safety during the execution of construction works (Royal Decree 1627/1997).
